How are small-scale tea farms in Taiwan being affected by big tea competitors?

There are small farms, particularly in northern Taiwan, that are being retired and abandoned as a result of not being lucrative, or even economically viable due to labor costs vs. volume of produce.

There are other small farms that are still maintaining a product value that is sustainable enough to keep them going in most cases. There is still enough a local/domestic demand for this type of tea. However, the producers are simply not profiting fairly from the fruits of their relatively hard labor as much as their large scale competitors who produce lower quality (or at least a less specialized type of) tea.
